THE WINEMAKING PARADISE ON
THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE ALPS
The difference between red and white wine in generally has to do with the type of grape, or varietal, used to make the wine. After all, wine is the fermented juice of fresh grapes, so the grapes themselves have a lot to do with the taste and color of the resulting wine. Sparkling wine is a wine with significant levels of carbon dioxide in it making it fizzy.
Both red and white wine grapes are white on the inside, but red wines often incorporate more of the grape skins, seeds and stems. These parts of the grape are known as “tannin,” which contribute to the darker color and the heavier, more acidic and sometimes spicy flavor often associated with red wines. White wine is often high in acidity but low in tannin.
There are many different types of red wines, but generally there are a few common types of red wine grapes, often from specialized wine-growing regions around the world. Generally, red wines have flavor profiles that are bigger and bolder, with aromas and tastes that are often enhanced with age.
White wines often taste lighter, crisper and more refreshing than a red wines, and so they often gain popularity during warmer months of the year. White wines are typically served alongside white meats and fish, but many experts insist that selecting wine is all about making the right choice for what you want, and what you enjoy.
Sparkling wines are generally lower in alcohol than most table wines and some of the most versatile wines to accompany food, especially appetizers. Bubbles are usually associated with moments of celebration and parties.
